Tea Maker

MY ROLE
UX & UI design of the Tea Maker in the native HomeWhiz smart home app, to control & monitor the appliance. Product features were defined with different teams such as project management, R&D, product design & experience design team. I translated the physical UI and additional features into the native app that address user behaviours and motivations.
WORKFLOW
The app covers all appliance features + additional suggestions for the user. I prepared and finalized user flows, feature lists, success/error & onboarding scenarios, control & monitor panels + documentation for various teams (primarily dev & project management).
feature list
It is possible to brew different types of dry tea leaves, by choosing the amount (min., med., max.,), and flavor (mild, strong). Additional directions are included both in the recipe book & the app. As the first step of my workflow, I list all possible / required / desired features and see how it will work all together before integrating everything into a wireframe (also a checklist).
ONboarding
I started designing the first thing in the list: flows for device onboarding.
The very first impression starts with the box. Onboarding is as important as the "unboxing" experience, as it guides the user into what product has to offer. I worked with the dev team to create "happy" and "sad" paths for different user types.
First Use / Main Control Panel
I thought of components as bulk rectangular spaces.  The most challenging aspect was achieving the same degree of feasibility in use with modular components.
Case study in progress. More to come soon.
